B&W Fiberglass Office

The B&W Fiberglass office sits inside an existing 127,000 SF manufacturing building in Shelby, where the work area held older offices and manufacturing space. The renovation demolished the interior walls, floor finish, ceilings and doors, and removed wind-brace columns, drinking fountains, window shades and the wood jambs at exterior openings, leaving a clear shell for a new office.

The program includes a lobby, offices, an open office, conference and meeting rooms, a break room, touchdown stations, a phone room, a server room and print and storage areas. All offices have aluminum frames with sliding glass doors, and the conference rooms have full-height tempered glass fronts. The structure and ductwork stay exposed and are painted white, with new walls rising 6 inches above the ceiling.

Floors combine Tarkett carpet tile, wood-look luxury vinyl tile, polished concrete and porcelain tile in the break room and restrooms. Cabinets are colored-core plastic laminate with quartz countertops, and paint colors in white, gray, blue and green mark the spaces. Ceilings mix acoustic tile with perforated metal tiles that hold inline lighting, along with linear pendant and recessed LED fixtures and a white noise system.

Ossa Studio prepared the schematic design in March and April 2022 and issued construction documents in June and August 2022 under the 2018 North Carolina Building Code. Engitecture designed the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems, which reuse and relocate the existing air handling units.
