Oula Health Women’s Healthcare Clinic in Charlotte
Ossa Studio partnered with Oula Health to bring the brand's first Charlotte location to life in Charlotte, a 2,985 SF building originally constructed in 1956 and previously renovated in 2011. Rather than starting from a blank slate, the project called for a careful adaptive reuse, preserving the character of an established neighborhood building while reshaping it into a clinical environment that feels warm, considered, and unmistakably Oula.
The scope spanned three disciplines. On the architecture side, Ossa's team worked through demolition and new construction plans with a deliberate hand, minimizing disruption to existing walls, ceilings, and finishes, and matching new work seamlessly to what remained, including refinishing original wood flooring to match at former wall locations. Every door opening, clearance, and accessible route was resolved against current code, with the basement level's more limited program addressed as an exempt, non-public support space.
On the interior side, the studio developed finish and furniture plans, interior elevations, and millwork details calibrated to a healthcare environment, meeting interior wall and ceiling requirements for the occupancy type while still delivering the softer, residential-feeling material palette Oula's brand is known for.

Project Details
Existing 1956 Building Reused as a Women's Health Clinic
The building in Charlotte was built in 1956 and last renovated in 2011. It holds 2,985 SF on two levels: a 2,051 SF first floor and a 934 SF basement. The proposed use is a medical office. Existing wood flooring and some doors and frames were kept and refinished, while millwork, wall paneling, ceilings, walls and doors were demolished where the new layout required it.
Exam Rooms, Lab and Accessible Layout in Charlotte
The first floor holds a lobby, a waiting area, seven exam rooms, a lab, storage, open office areas and restrooms that were converted to unisex and unisex accessible. The basement is a storage level for staff. New accessible drinking fountains, vertical grab bars, accessible millwork and countertops, and lever handles at every door make the clinic usable by all patients.
Finishes, Millwork and Materials for a Healthcare Interior
The finish palette uses Benjamin Moore paint colors, a limewash wall finish, a luxury vinyl tile floor in an oak pattern, a stacked 3 x 6 wall tile with brick red grout, and white acoustic ceiling tile. Plastic laminate in a cherry tone covers the exam room cabinets and the front desk, and white laminate covers the lab. Exposed structure and ductwork are painted, and the walls are blocked for TVs and wall cabinets.
Architecture and Interior Design Services for Clinics in Charlotte
Ossa Studio began with existing conditions documentation and a test fit, then prepared demolition, construction, furniture and reflected ceiling plans, a life safety code sheet and accessibility diagrams under the 2018 North Carolina Building Code and Existing Building Code.
